Why does the wobie app need access to Bluetooth, the local network, and location?
The wobie fav app requires certain permissions to correctly set up and control your device. Here's an overview of why these are necessary:
Bluetooth
Detecting your speaker during initial setup
Bluetooth is only used during setup, e.g. to transfer Wi-Fi data or to detect the speaker – not in daily operation – unless you want it to be.
Local network
Communication between app and wobie box in the home network
After connecting to Wi-Fi, the wobie box communicates directly via your home network – not via the internet.
This connection is necessary for:
- Music control (Play, Pause, Volume)
- Firmware updates
- Device recognition and configuration (e.g. sleep timer)
On iOS, this permission appears as "Access to devices on the local network". Without it, the app cannot reach the speaker.
Location (GPS)
Detection of WLAN/Bluetooth devices – enforced by the operating system
This permission is a technical requirement of the operating systems (especially Android, occasionally also iOS). To detect nearby Wi-Fi networks or Bluetooth devices, the system requires location access. We do not use or store your location.
Only the approximate location needs to be shared, not the exact location.
Privacy Policy Notice:
The app does not store or share location data. The permissions are purely technical in nature and are – as already mentioned – required by iOS and Android.
