An audio player for children: why we created the wobie box
A room full of stories, without a screen
Remember playing your first cassette yourself? We wanted children to have that same sense of freedom with today's music and stories.
So much content is now a tap away on a phone. How can children enjoy it without borrowing a parent's smartphone each time?
Figures, cards and ways to listen
There are many inventive players. Toniebox lets children choose stories with figures, while Tigerbox offers a broad range of recordings. Each has its place.
But we found ourselves asking:
- Why buy another figure for an album we already listen to on Spotify?
- Could a player stay useful after the figure-collecting phase?
The wobie box: seven buttons and Spotify
We made the wobie box as a simple audio player for children, using content assigned from Spotify.
How do the rainbow buttons work?
Instead of a screen, there are seven coloured buttons. Through Spotify Connect, you can assign content to each one: an evening story on yellow, dance music on blue. Once set up, children start what they want to hear themselves.
That's the kind of children's player we had in mind: music and stories without a screen or an overwhelming list of options.
What suits your family?
Whether the wobie box is right for you depends on everyday habits:
- If your family enjoys collecting figures, a figure-based player may be a good fit.
- If flexible Spotify playlists and simple controls matter most, that's what we built the wobie box for.
